Team event (2 Singles and 1 Double)
4 teams from KPPj8 participating in the tournament. Team P8A was presented by Azam, Hamir, Megat and Shahrul, Team P8B by Ezad, Hazrizad, Nafixiom and Razli, Team P8C by Aiman, Azamuddin, Azroul and Norhisam while Team P8D by Aidi, Hairi, Ishak, Marzuki and Noor Amin. Team P8A was drawn in Group D, P8B in Group E, P8C in Group A and P8D in Group C. Tournament kick off around 9.00am at Dewan Serbaguna, Pusat Sukan UPM.
In Group A, only 3 teams turn up. First match for P8C is against TDM B. Aiman played as first single and opened his account with 0-3 lost. Azamuddin and Norhisam were paired for the first time in double, but expected to level the score to have any change for second single to play for. Perhaps lack of chemistry and consistency cause them to surrender their game by 1-3 score.

Azroul, played as second single as to complete the schedule. Azroul playing against Amir or known as Alien (in PP4M forum) and both of them played without any pressure what so ever, thus turned out to be one of the best match in the tournament. It was very intense match start from the beginning as Azroul took the 1st set 13-11. In 2nd set also end up with deuce for Azroul to lead 2-0. Alien is not an easy opponent to play for as he restored some hope to turn back the match in his favour in 3rd set and reduced the deficit to 1-2. In 4th set, the qualities of the game shown by both paddlers are absolutely at the highest level considering as novice game, Amir restored the parity 2-2 with 13-11 win to bring the match into 5th set. With only personal glory at stake, Azroul unable to grab the killer points and lost 9-11.

Second match for P8C is against Team Panadol Hospital Serdang and must win condition as both teams lost their first match with TDM B. Final results went to P8C 3-0 to maintain a good record against Hospital Serdang, they also lost to KPPj8’s team in the previous MSS 2011. As a result, Team P8C qualified for knock out stage as group runner-up.
In Group C, nothing much expected from Team P8D except to obtain the tournament experiences and they lost all their 3 matches with very good spirit and performance taking into consideration that they all still green in table tennis. But some flash hope was produced during the game and with better game strategy and player arrangement, they will able to upset any teams in near future…InsyaAllah.

Ezad in action...
Team P8A opened their account in Group D with an easy win 3-0 against Jabatan Alam Sekitar In second match against SRTTC Otai, Azam played as first single and win by 3-0, then came Hamir and Megat as they continued the good form when beating their opponent 3-0. Shahrul, played as second single quite reasonably well to ensure the cleaned sheet by beating another Otai with long pips 3-1.
Megat in action...
3rd match against TLDM A is the most important match in Group D as the winner will be group’s champion and relatively has an easy route in later stages. Megat was chosed to play as first single versus Wan Hussein which is well known for his long pips superb control. He was simply been outclass by Wan Hussein’s ball control. KPPj8 is badly needed player like Wan Hussein in order for club’s players to develop a know how skills to play against any mastered long pips. Megat eventually lost his first single match by 0-3. Hamir and Shahrul played as double had a tough job in their shoulder to bring back any hope for P8A to win the match. As usual, they started the game brilliantly to take lead 2-0 but suddenly evaporate it and let their opponent to level the score 2-2. In deciding set, Hamir and Shahrul just lost their killer points even though at some moment they had a lead 9-7 and eventually lost 9-11. Azam played as second single and knowing his team already grabbed 2nd spot in group stage, with no pressure at all he managed to win his match by 3-2.

Azam in action...
While Team P8B playing in Group E had shown fantastic performance by recorded clean sheet matches to become group champion. Hazrizad, Ezad, Nafixiom and Razli…u make us proud!!! Actually, there is nothing much to report in Group E matches, as reporter (as player as well) had little time to watch and observe games in this group.
The drawn for knock out stages were made around 4.00pm. P8A will played against TDM B, P8B played against Bendahari Shah Alam and P8 C against TLDM A. Both P8 B and P8 C lost 0-2 to their respective opponents in second round knock-out stage but they could be more than pleased with their effort. The witches said it was due to the Nasi Arab Uniten taken during lunch break….hehehee.
Aidi & Hairi in action...
Noor Amin in action...
Different luck happened to P8 A, as they produced one of the best performance to record 2-0 win against TDM B. Azam played as first single and win his match 3-0 then Hamir and Megat secured the gold points by 3-2 (if I’m not mistaken) as Shahrul can keep his stroke up to Quarter Final match which was scheduled to be played the next day (Sunday).
Individual Double Event (knock-out format)
Since the fee (RM40/pair) for this event is considering quite expensive compared to normally practiced, not many player eager to participate. KPPj8 was representing by 6 pairs i.e Azroul & Megat, Azam & Shahrul, Hazrizad & Ezad, Nafixiom & Razli, Aiman & Azamuddin and Norhisam & Noor Amin. All pairs managed to overcome their first huddle respectively and qualified for second round. In next games, only pair of Azroul & Megat and Azam & Shahrul able to qualify to Best of 16 round. Azam & Shahrul played against Syed Azwan & Faidzal of Untaken. Although Azam & Shahrul had put their best effort but it still has no match to their opponent and lost 1-3 as their opponent suppose to be played in the expert category. It was simply two different levels between them.
Azroul & Megat played another breathtaking game to take lead 2-0 against Harris Terlaris & Bahaman but toward the end somehow lost their momentum and let their opponent to overtake them 3-2. That the end of Individual Double Event hope as nobody able to qualify for Quarter Final stage. The story could be different if our double champion, Hisham & Zulkarnain participating in this tournament.
Quarter Final Match – Team Event
Team P8A has no choice but to play against tournament favorite, team Untaken comprising HapisGanu, Syed Azwan, Faidzal, Suffian and Nan which 4 of them were ex-sukma players. By standard, they are not supposed to play in this tournament as it was crafted for novice players like us. When considering the sportsmanship spirit, we never bother about this issue as it will be the best chance for u to play against the best opponent and gained as much experiences as we can. Azam played as first single against HapisGanu and has simply no match to Hapis devastating forehand attack. It was a lesson learned to Azam, which he has to develop much better serves when playing against amongst the top player. Hapis third ball attack is very powerful and consistent as a result he registered an easy win 3-0. Hamir and Shahrul turned to be a double player against Faidzal & Suffian and managed to produce better performance especially in 2nd and 3rd sets although they still lost by smallest margin 10-12 and 11-13. As a quarter finalist, we managed to grab consolation prize of RM150…Alhamdulillah!!!
